1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and a hashed password. If you sign up via Google or Apple OAuth, we receive only the basic profile information those services provide (name and email).
Verdict Data
We collect the judgments you submit: which response you selected, your written reasoning, the prompt you evaluated, and the timestamp of submission. This data is the core product of The Verdict and is central to our business model.
Usage Data
We collect standard usage data including pages visited, features used, time spent, browser type, device type, and IP address. This helps us improve the product.
Payment Information
The Verdict is currently free and does not collect any payment information. No credit card or billing data is required to use the service.
2. How We Use Your Information

- To process and display your verdicts, XP, and ranking — Legal basis: Contract performance (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b))
- To aggregate and anonymize verdict data for sale to AI research organizations — Legal basis: Legitimate interests (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)), with user consent toggle available in Settings
- To send you account-related emails (confirmation, password reset, product updates) — Legal basis: Contract performance (transactional), Consent (marketing)
- To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms — Legal basis: Legitimate interests (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f))
- To comply with applicable laws and legal obligations — Legal basis: Legal obligation (GDPR Art. 6(1)(c))
3. Verdict Data and AI Training
The primary purpose of this platform is to collect human preference data for AI training (RLHF). By submitting verdicts, you acknowledge and agree that:
- Your verdict choices and written reasoning may be aggregated and sold to AI research organizations
- Verdict data sold to third parties is anonymized — it will not include your name, email, or account identifier
- We may share statistical summaries (e.g., aggregate preference patterns) with third parties
- You retain no ownership or royalty rights over submitted verdicts
4. Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information only in these circumstances:
Service Providers:We use third-party services including Supabase (database and auth), Vercel (hosting), Resend (email), and Plausible (analytics). Each is bound by their own privacy policies.
Legal Requirements:We may disclose information when required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or the public.
Business Transfer:If The Verdict is acquired or merges with another company, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction.
Public Leaderboard:Your display name, title, and XP count are publicly visible on the leaderboard. You can update your display name at any time in your profile settings.
5. International Data Transfers
Your personal data is processed by service providers located in the United States (Supabase, Vercel) and the European Union (Plausible). Transfers of personal data from the EEA/UK to the United States are governed by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission. You may request a copy of the relevant safeguards by contacting us.
6. Data Retention
Account data:Retained until account deletion; deleted within 30 days of deletion request.
Verdict data:Anonymized upon account deletion and retained in aggregate form as part of training datasets already distributed.
Analytics:Aggregated only; no individual-level retention.
Email logs:90 days.
7. Cookies and Tracking
We use essential cookies for authentication (session management) and preference storage. We use Plausible Analytics, which is privacy-preserving and does not use cookies or track individuals across sites. We do not run advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate personal data
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated personal data
- Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Objection: Object to certain processing activities
- Withdrawal of consent: Where processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. You can manage your data preferences in your account Settings.
- Right to complain: You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.

9. Children's Privacy
The Verdict is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.
10. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS), encrypted password storage (bcrypt via Supabase Auth), and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We will notify affected users promptly in the event of a data breach.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you via email. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
12. Automated Decision-Making
We do not use automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. XP scores and judicial titles are calculated algorithmically based on your participation and are used only for gamification purposes.
